Modified E9 copedent

Post by John Gately »

Just thought I’d share this modified E9 tuning/copedent I’ve been enjoying playing with. (Attached file) Thank you Jim Palenscar of North County Steel Guitars for setting this up for me.

Interesting// I like the idea of the of the string 9 C#.. I don't use my string 9 much at all, and the low A looks cool as well.. My guitar isn't here right now, but I might try those changes at 9 and 10 and see how it goes.. I once bought an s10 fessy that dropped the low b 10th string down a full tone to A on the third pedal but along with the 4 and 5 string full tone raise, it was way too long and stiff a pull so I took it off.. You setup gives the low C# on 9, plus the added bass range of the low A.. I like it, and might try it out... bob
I'm over the hill and hittin'rocks on the way down!

no gear list for me.. you don't have the time......

Thanks Bob. The idea of having pedal 1 and 2 set up like that next to each other was to get an easier way to extend pentatonic licks vertically (I think R Mooney had independent raises and strings 4 and 5 on his Fender) as well as get additional manipulation of the dominant 7 chord in the minus 2 position which combined with the whole tone raise on string 6 on the RKR and the standard whole step raise on string 5 gives a lot of ways to manipulate the 7 chord with the root on string 7. Also with the 9 and 10 strings tuned to A and C# with standard half and step and whole step raises on strings 6 and 5 respectively you get an A6 tuning on the bottom 7 strings. Anyway, thanks for the reply and hope you get some mileage out of the set up if you try it.
