GFI players - right knee flag/wing
For you GFI players out there… As GFI knee levers are asymmetrical, the knee lever “wing” that GFI offers, when placed on the right knee, is oriented toward the player. Given the angle that leg approaches the RKR, it is pretty much useless on the right knee.
Just wondering if any of you have come up with any kind of solution on this.

Re: GFI players - right knee flag/wing
Sorry to hear about that problem. I wonder what others will say. In my case I don't need a "flag" or "wing" on my GFI guitars, all five - right and left and vertical - knee levers fit my body like a glove, its a smaller guitar than a regular SD10, its the single neck padded model, and I fit snuggly right into all the levers.
However I do have other guitars where I consider the flag (or wing) a necessity, for example LKR (E-flat) lever engaged for an extended period of time to get C6th voicing is more comfortable with the flag, or on the RKR that you mention, the flag makes it more accessible on SD-10s and D-10 guitars to reach that far out with your leg. I hope you get some answers here.
(PS - I wonder what the generally accepted term is, I always called it a flag, but maybe I'm wrong and should start calling it a wing ?)

Yeah, in all other respects the GFI fits me perfectly. And the RKL is certainly workable but it’s sure be easier with a flag that pointed toward the front of the guitar. I’ve always called them flags and that’s mostly what I’ve seen them referred to as. But GFI calls them wings!

I have 2 GFI’s. One with a wing & one without any. Mine too points towards the back of the guitar. Without having y guitar i; front of me, i wonder if you could simply loosen it & aim it to the front?

No, it can only fit in one orientation. So on the right knee it points back and on the left knee it points front.baxter vaughan wrote: 14 Aug 2025 5:29 pm I have 2 GFI’s. In 12 years I've never heard it called a wing and one of my guitars is a GFI!

I'm assuming the angle of the flag is the problem? If so, and if the flag is made of aluminum, it could be bent to match the angle of your leg. Another way would be angle the knee lever mounting bracket, and change the angle that way. Of course, this might require filling the old screwholes, and making a slight bend in end of the pedal rod to match the new angle. The only caution with this second method would be to make sure that folding the flagged lever would not interfere with folding the other lever.

On GFI's Website they say it is only compatible With the Right moved knee lever. I was thinking about getting 1 for RKR, Since it is my E lower. I put a lock on the lever and never thought more about the flag/wing, On 1 of my S12s.

Re: GFI players - right knee flag/wing
Hey Bobby, I think you can put them on left-moving levers as well but they will orient away from the player. I’m not 100% on that.
If I look at pictures of flags on other brands, they do seem to be oriented the same way—toward the player. But doesn’t the other way make more sense given the angle of the player’s leg? I remember on my last GFI I had ordered a flag for RKL and my leg just didn’t really make contact with it (this diagram is from the player perspective looking straight down).
But had I been able to orient it toward the front of the guitar it would have been perfect.
