Re: At E's (Buddy Emmons)
perhaps my favorite steel guitar instrumental.
one of the really unique things about it is the walking bass line Buddy plays on strings 9 and 10 underneath the melody. Buddy said he was inspired by the Barney Kessel song Barney's Blues with a similar ascending bass line. also listen to Kessel's version of I Let A Song Go Out Of My Heart for its similarity to At E's
here's the first 4 bars of Russ Wever's tab which demonstrates how Buddy played the simultaneous bass line but it seems we all play the song a little differently. I start on fret 15, strings 3 and 6 with pedal 6 down, and string 10 open

Re: At E's (Buddy Emmons)
Thanks for your reply. I wrote the tab without the bass line because when I digitally separated the instruments to better understand the work done on the steel, the digital application assigned the bass frequencies to the electric bass and not to the steel, so I followed the sound without the movements made by the C and F steel strings.

perhaps you could add those bass notes in "post production"?Ferdinando Ghidelli wrote: 19 Oct 2025 7:39 am Thanks for your reply. as I said, it's one of the really unique things about the song and one of the more challenging and fun aspects of playing it.
and of course it's the way Buddy wrote and played it.
