My old Roeder stand... I had a dream!

Post by Stephen Cowell »

In the dream ACME threaded rods were dancing to Hawaiian music... so, like the invention of the sewing machine, I decided to improve my Mark Roeder lapsteel stand.

The 1/2" x 10tpi threaded rod was 9$ at Grainger... the tap was 27$ on Amazon. Took a couple hours to drill and tap the end of a piece of the rod... you don't want to break a tap in there! But since you get 3' of rod there's enough for mistakes.

Now I just spin the neck holder to raise/lower it... I did put some Noalox on the threads to prevent galling. Sorry about the 90deg out... derned if I can figger out how to fix it, not that way in the phone or on my machine.

I have drilled and tapped some of my Deluxe34s too, but I used 1/4 x 20 threaded drill rod from the local hardware store. I purchased the 1/4 x 1 aluminum bar stock from McMaster-Carr. Mark made the custom bi-level double bracket for the bouts, and the U-shaped neck brackets.
