PVC leg mount bracket

Post by Roger Crawford »

I broke the leg mount bracket on my Freeloader tonight. I’ve heard of replacements being made out of PVC pipe. Those of you who’ve done that, what size pipe did you use?

I've not used PVC pipe, but these clamps are available from the Forum store:

I use these with great success. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AIE89CY?re ... in_title_1

Most pedals come with M3 or M4 flathead screws that are long enough to attach the pedal. I cover the screw heads with fuzzy Velcro to protect the legs. I am not a machinist, but I measure carefully to make sure the drill holes line up. On Brad Sarno's Space Dust, I had to add a brass bracket because his screws were on the side. With the pedals on my steel's right leg, I find them easier to adjust than the floor. I have used the Show Pro brackets in the past, and they are excellent.

Jon, the amazon clip's description shows 3/4 in. I believe your guitar in the pic may be a Ross Sierra. Most steel legs are 7/8. Interested if yours are the same OD and if so, how those 3/4 clips work on a 7/8 leg. Thanks.

OOOPs! I sent the wrong link. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AIE89CY?re ... in_title_1
They are the clamps, not clips, that fit over 1/2 in PVC that is 7/8" in OD. I will edit the post. I tried several clamps to obtain a snug fit that is easily removable. Brad's mini black box uses the same type of clamp that I have recommended.

The clips on my music rack that attaches to my steel were not real secure so I put two strips of Gription Tape by CatTongue - one strip on each side of the inside of the clip. The tape is pretty low profile so it didn’t affect how the clips fit. No slipping at all now - and thats with iPads and books on the stand. It’s available on Amazon. I had also purchased some 3/4” greenhouse clips for another project and they seem to fit the legs on my Williams ok…I believe they use a ‘standard’ sized leg.

When the pvc clip on my Freeloader broke, I purchased a replacement from Brad. Pre-drilled, perfect length.

The Freeloader is an amazing device.

Lee, I tried ordering one from Brad, but keep getting a message on the store’s page that it can’t identify something. Yes, the Freeloader is a great piece of gear.
