Half Stop for RKL for Open Minor form?

Post by Kevin Gabriel »

Hey folks, I have seen Paul Franklin reference the RKL move for a minor open (no pedals). Is there a way to add a half stop like on my LKL, or is it just a feel thing? He mentions the "feel" aspect of a minor with A/B down by lifting the A pedal. I kinda do that naturally but was just wondering if folks mod their RKL setup to get a more accurate intermediate chord. Mine only affects the lower G# currently. Still learning!

Any info would be great! Thanks- Kevin

What kind of guitar do you have?

Most people get a G note on string 6 by splitting the RKL lever (G# to F#) with the B pedal. Most modern guitars can tune this split.

My RKL also raises 1 F# to G#, I installed a feel stop at the G note on 1.

If you’re in pedal down position, you can move up 1 fret, release pedals and lower your Es to get the same minor chord that you’re talking about. The split is useful for a ton of other chords though.

Thanks, it's a GFI Expo X1, 3 pedal and 4 knees. Still learning the pedal and knee associations but also having to make adjustments to height and setup. I will try your suggestions and see . Interested in the half step feel mod though. As far as I can tell it is mapped to the copedents on the GFI site, but I bought it used from an 80 yo player who may have made some changes. Thanks for the reply!

On all-pull guitars with G#>F# on a lever it is possible to time the other changes on that lever to achieve a feel stop at the G, much as is commonly done with the string 2 D#>D change.

If Paul is talking about HIS RKL, that would be the E lowers to Eb. That will put the guitar in open G# minor, no half stops needed.
