One of my all-time music heroes. I have seen him play live three times here in the Bay Area.

The first was the closing night of Winterland in San Francisco, New Year's Eve 1978 when as a member of The Blues Brothers, they opened for The Grateful Dead.

Another time was when Booker T. & the M.G.'s were Neil Young's backing band.

A third time was when Steve and Booker played a show but not with the rest of the M.G's, it was a different band.

A master of "less is more" and it seemed that everything he played was perfect for the song.

Rest in Peace Mr. Steve Cropper.

I was fortunate enough to do a session with him in 1977 on a Chris Hillman solo LP. He was very cool, laid back, and seemed like just another player on the date, even though he was the stuff of legend. And of course, he played great…just perfect. I soaked it all in as best I could.
 
I remember that he wore a hand tooled leather belt with the names of the hits he had done engraved on it… Green Onions/In The Midnight Hour/Hip-Hug-Her, etc.
That session stands out as a life moment for me, even 48 years later.

Actually it's the "Clear Sailing" LP, and the cut is "Ain't That Peculiar". Also featuring Chuck Rainey on bass.

Another hero and legend gone. Instrumentalist, writer, arranger, leader, Tele master, stylist, innovator. Big inspiration to me from way back in the 60s when I first heard his work even though I didn't know who he was at the time.

Skip, I have read the credits on both albums. And on Slipping Away Paul Harris was your forunner and it features Mr.Cropper on most of the tracks. You were all over Clear Sailing. Funny that Rainey and Cropper weren't given any credit in the inner steve

My copies of both those LP have been lost over the years. I wasn't aware Steve Cropper was on Slipping Away...which is the better LP, IMHO.
I'm surprised that the credits are incomplete for Clear Sailing LP. That's a shame, since you would think that having both Steve Cropper and Chuck Rainey on your album would be something you'd want to highlight. The Clear Sailing album was cut at Davlen Studio in North Hollywood, except for Ain't That Peculiar, which we cut at the Haji Remote Truck/Studio in Crossroads of the World in Hollywood.
Somewhere I have a photo, taken that day of us sitting on the back of the remote truck. Cropper, Chris Hillman, myself, Timothy Schmidt, and guitarist John Brennan.
